Dwarf Rescue is a quest on RSC Cabbage and Coleslaw. It is an extension / successor to the Dwarf Cannon quest. Help Gramat rescue his son, and earn the right to use his lava furnace...

Quest

Requirements

  • Completing of the Dwarf Cannon quest
  • Ability to kill a level 325 Balrog (twice)
  • Needle and thread

Getting started

  • Talk to Gramat, found north of the dwarf cannon engineer. He will tell you about his son that's gone missing.

Rescueing the dwarf kid

Go down the ladder into dwarven mine. A bit south (against the first wall on the soutern side), there's a ladder down leading into a new area.

You'll see the young child a bit further down the dungeon, as well as some assorted NPC's: a few shadow spiders, some poison spiders, greater demons, black demons and a lvl 325 balrog (a big black demon).

Your missing is two part:

  • Recover the childs teddy bear
  • Get the kid out

To do so, you grab the teddy bear part hidden behind the poison spiders. A dose of antipoison potion is suggested. The other part is obtained as a drop from the Balrog guarding the child. You have to kill this lvl 325 black demon not once, but twice, so come prepared. The demon has a VERY high attack stat, so without proper protection (armor / prayer) you will get hit consistenly. Upon death you recover the other part.

Finishing up

After killing the demon, talk to the child. He'll return you towards the dungeon entrance, but asks you to give his teddy bear to his dad aswell. To restore the teddy bear, use a NEEDLE on one of the parts, with some thread in your inventory.

Go talk to Gramat. To express his gratitude he grants you access to the lava furnace, and notes on how to make a dragon scale mail body.

Reward

Making scales

With lvl 90 crafting, use a chisel on a King Black Dragon scale to turn it into 5 smaller scales. You'll need 150 of these smaller scales, so you need 30 King Black Dragon scales (which drop at 1/50 without RoW and 1/25 with).

Making dragon bars and chain links

To make the scale mail body, you need a chain mail structure to attach the scales to. You need 500 'chain links', which you make from.. dragon bars. Given there is no dragon ore, you smelt these from dragon longswords (1 bar) or dragon axes (2 bars).

There's 50 chain links per bar, so you need 10 bars (10 d longs, 5 d axes, or a mix). With 90 smithing, use these items on the lava furnace to obtain the bars. After doing so, use the bars (bring a hammer!) on the anvil right next to the lava furnace, to smith your chain links.

Waynes chains

Given the specialist nature of the process - you consult the expert in the field: Wayne, at Wayne's Chains, along the southern wall of Falador. Talk to him, and you'll find he has an additional chat option.

He'll ask you for the scales, the chain links, and a fee of 500k gp. If you have all those in your inventory, he'll make you the dragon scale mail body.

Dragon Scale Mail Body

Now you have the fabled dragon scale mail body.. but what's the fuss that makes it worth all the effort?

It's perks are:

  • 95 armour (up from 80 for a rune platebody)
  • allows you to combine with Klanks gauntlets or the family crest reward gauntlets, for an extra +2 aim/power and +8 armor.
  • stat boosts similar to a dragonstone amulet (bonuses to weapon aim, weapon power, magic and prayer)
  • additional resistance to dragon breath. An antifire shield blocks out 80% of dragonbreath damage. the scale mail adds another 20% on top, making it possible to completely resist the dragonbreath damage.
