About Harvesting
On the skill
The harvesting skill is used to get produce which may consist of vegetables, fruits, berries and herbs. Fruits and vegetables can be eaten to heal some health or sold to players. Berries and herbs are particularly useful for questing and training the herblaw skill. To harvest, you need to determine which kind of spot you want to get produce from – to get fruits you can get them by hand though you will find it better to use a fruit picker. Berry bushes and allotments you may also pick up by hand but learn that using hand shovel is best on those spots. To harvest from herb and grass spots, you require herb clippers. All these tools can be purchased from Gardener s living on the distinct Kingdom Castles.
Getting started
Pick up tools from one of the gardeners, and make your way to the allotments near Draynor Village or northern Ardougne.
To harvest from a spot left click on the spot you wish to harvest. If the spot still has produce there is a chance you will extract it, provided your harvesting is high enough to harvest that particular produce. The produce is quite hard to get out of the spots so it might take you a few attempts to be successful.
Note that sometimes for fruit trees, bushes and allotments there's a chance they become 'weak' needing either soil or water. You will 'sense' something is off, and (given you have some in your inventory) will automatically apply either a bucket of soil on them, or water them using a watering can. Failure to do so, will make 'skip' a produce cycle, where doing what's needed gives a 3 minute immunity state.
As your Harvesting level goes up, you'll find you get higher success rates when trying to pick produce.
Training guide
Herb clipping
Herb clipping is a bit of the 'odd one off'. A herb spot may supply you with any herb, except Torstol, provided you have the level to harvest it. Herbs that spawn in the spot depend on the rarity they are normally received as drop – so you may find it a bit challenging to get the higher level herbs! These can only spawn in holy grounds near the White Druids.
Fatigue
Harvesting is a fatigue skill which means as you harvest your character will slowly tire and eventually need to find a bed to rest on. This only applies to worlds having fatigue enabled. For more information on fatigue please see the fatigue guide.
Game content
NPCs
You'll now find 'gardeners'- in the kingdoms castles: Varrock, Lumbridge, Camelot, Ardougne You'll also find some in Yanille's garden, and Hemenster.
Tools
There's a few new tools:
- Fruit Picker – Allows the player to harvest (better) fruit trees, palms and plants
- Hand shovel – Allows the player to harvest (better) bushes and allotments
- Herb clippers – A must tool to be able to “clip” from the ground grass and herbs
- Watering can – allows the player to make a harvesting spot be “stronger” and has a small chance for the player to not deplete it. When you feel the spot is weak you will water it and it will remain watered for 3 minutes while you remain on the node. One watering can holds 4 uses
Beyond the tools, there's also 'soil'. It allows the player to make a harvesting spot be “stronger”, and adds a small chance for the player to get an additional produce. When you feel the spot is weak you will water it and it will remain watered for 3 minutes while you remain on the node. A player may use a bucket of soil mound to get more soil. You'll find one of these 'soil mounds', for example,in Catherby near the flax fields.
Empty buckets can be bought in various general stores, water-filled buckets can be found in slightly larger amounts at Shantay Pass. Using clay on these to empty them can help you gather empty buckets faster.
Produce spots
Below are lists of producespots. Please note that any experience numbers given are for a 1X experience-rate. Default cabbage-players will get 5x these numbers.
Also, numbers are per harvest. While the object you're harvesting from doesn't deplete, you'll keep picking. The respawn time only applies upon deletion, not in between individual harvests.
