Harvesting training

Getting started

Pick up tools from a gardener, which can be found around any castle (Lumbridge, Ardougne, etc)

Turning the "Show ground items" option in the settings will prevent the produce that drops while training from making clicking the plant more difficult. Don't forget to turn this back on, if you opt to turn it off.

Now make your way to the nearest Potato allotment. Take note that there are harvestable potato plants and non harvestable plants. When first starting training this skill, the potato plant is the only crop which the player can gain Harvesting experience from, and so they must start here before deciding on different methods of progressing.

Locations: Lumbridge will be the best location to start this skill, however it should be noted that there are multiple places where the player can begin harvesting Potatoes.

- Between Lumbridge and Draynor Several plants can be found in a fenced off field near the Windmill/Sheep Pen area in Lumbridge. These plants are across the road from the large field with many non-harvestable potato plants.

- North of Ardougne (between Ardougne and Hemenster) there are a few fenced off farm fields. Walk into the the most eastern one. Have a good look around (some of the crops are fairly small!) and find the potato plants.

Differing methods

For any method, there's always a balance to be found between 'exp per succesfull harvest', 'succes rate while harvesting' and 'risk of downtime when all plots get depleted'.

- Maximum EXP rates: Harvest from allotments, leave the resulting produce items where they drop from your inventory

- Medium EXP - but more afk/low click intensive training: Harvest from fruit trees

- Lower EXP, but high reward: Harvest for Herblaw secondaries

  • Herbs
  • Snape Grass
  • Bushes

This means that successful actions/EXP rate will scale with the players Harvesting skill level, similar to how success rates for Woodcutting or Fishing improve with skill levels. Like these skills, Harvesting uses a closely related formula which determines success rates. Highest exp per success will not always imply fastest experience per hour.

The fast way

This method is best started in Lumbridge, at the fields near the Windmill/Sheep Pen

  • Harvest Potatoes level 9
  • Harvest Garlic until level 20
  • Harvest Corn until about level 60
  • Harvest Red Cabbage up to around level 85
  • Harvest White pumpkins - up to level 99.

The AFK/low click intensive way

Fruit trees are the best method for gaining experience in an AFK/low click intensive manner. They are less likely to deplete, granting more AFK time between batch actions. AFK times can be up to 3 minutes. This method comes at the cost of a reduced EXP/hr rate. Expect fruit trees to give you between 1/2 or 2/3 of the exp you could get at allotments.

The profitable way

Banking valuable produce like Herbs, Snape Grass and Berries (Whiteberries in particular) will create a lot of profit for the player.

These Harvesting nodes usually aren't close to a bank, and there are fewer spots available.

Hourly EXP rates are estimated between 1/5 and 1/6 of what allotments could get you, and a great deal of time is spent banking. This is however is the best way to gain large amounts of herbs and secondaries. Whiteberries (super defense potions) and Snape Grass (fishing potions, prayer potions) are both useful (for yourself) or valuable (sell to other players)

On the use of soil / watering cans

Both soil and watering cans can help you, but soil mounds aren't widely spread. However, when training at the Hemenster patch, and dropping produce anyway, it's highly recommended to fill an inventory with buckets and restock soil when they go empty.
