Open RuneScape Classic Wiki

The Open RuneScape Classic project was officially begun in June 2018, though has roots spanning as far back as 2009 with the release of Open RSCD v25. The Open RuneScape Classic project has been a non-profit, community driven, open source initiative to build as close of a replica RSC game experience as possible, to allow custom features to be enabled with simple configuration file edits, and to keep the memory alive of what is now considered to be an abandonware game, RuneScape Classic (2001-2018). For over a decade, many private servers have come and gone and nearly all have operated for monetary profits from donations, subscriptions, micro transactions, backroom deals, and bribery. Education, open source, and information sharing were spurned in the interest of "leech proofing" code, shameless money grabs, toxic individuals, leveraging booter services against rival servers, and forms of various deception. We strongly condemn those behaviors and instead see this as a hobby worth volunteering our personal time to work on for the enjoyment of others, personal learning, making new friends, and the nostalgia of years past. The Open RuneScape Classic core team consists of real life professional software developers, security consultants, Dev Ops managers, and more.

World Information

- RSC Preservation provides a near-authentic RuneScape Classic experience at the 1x experience rate with only a few minor quality of life improvements consisting of: dialog menu number key shortcuts, non-intrusive global chat, gnome cooking badges, and fixed authentic things that were broken like desert heat and Thor's black hole. RSC+ (https://rsc.plus) is an authentic RSC client that supports game client recordings from a network level, replaying of recordings, world switching, and various overlays for information display. RSC+ was first released in January of 2016 during the last official reopening of RuneScape Classic. The RSC Preservation server is now authentic enough that the RSC+ client can connect to the server and play the game again! More information on how to use it to connect may be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4aD-PL6WK0

- RSC Cabbage operates at a 5x experience rate, game speed is 30% faster, has custom sprites, batched skills, new abilities, added items, and more. This wiki is here to help players learn more about all of the features that RSC Cabbage has to offer. Unless stated explicitly, it is safe to assume that the wiki is only valid for RSC Cabbage and not the Open RSC world.

How often is Open RuneScape Classic updated? Updates are generally pushed once a week on Sundays, as time permits.

How can I help? Join the Discord chat and come talk to us! Word of mouth recommendations, YouTube videos, and Twitch streams are welcomed for recruiting more players. There are many GitLab issue bug reports that need fixes too!

How do I run my own copy? Visit the Open RuneScape Classic game repository and follow the instructions. Open RuneScape Classic is Windows, Mac, and Linux compatible! There is an Android client as well, though no way to run a MySQL server, the game server, and game client at the same time on Android to allow an Android single player instance at this time.
